Questions
How much does Venmo charge to receive money?
Personal payments from other Venmo users are free. If the sender tags a payment to your personal profile as goods and services, Venmo charges you a seller transaction fee of 2.99%. Payments to a business profile cost 1.9% + $0.10 on payments of $1.00 or more, and 2.29% + $0.09 through Tap to Pay. Charity profiles pay 1.9% + $0.10.
Who pays the goods and services fee, the buyer or the seller?
The seller. Venmo takes it out of the payment you receive, and the buyer pays nothing extra for it. Separately, a sender who funds a personal payment with a credit card pays Venmo's 3% credit card fee; payments to business profiles are exempt from that 3%.
How much should I ask for to receive $100?
For a goods and services payment, ask for $103.08: after the 2.99% fee, $100.00 lands in your balance. On a business profile it's $102.04. If you also want the money in your bank within minutes, a personal payment of $101.78 covers the Instant Transfer fee. The calculator works this out for any amount.
How much is the Venmo Instant Transfer fee?
1.75% of the amount you transfer, with a minimum of $0.25 and a maximum of $25.00. The standard transfer is free and usually arrives in 1–3 business days at a bank, or in about 48 hours on an eligible debit card.
Do I get the Venmo fee back if I refund the buyer?
No. For payments the sender intentionally tagged as a purchase, Venmo says it won't return the fee, so you cover it if you refund the full amount. Business profile fees aren't returned on refunds either. If someone tagged a payment to you as a purchase by mistake, Venmo says its support team may be able to return the fee.
What does this calculator leave out?
Cashing checks in the app (2% or 5%, minimum $6), buying and selling crypto, debit card ATM and foreign transaction fees, sending to non-US PayPal accounts (5%, minimum $0.99, maximum $4.99) and currency conversion. Venmo's fee schedule lists Tap to Pay at 2.29% + $0.09, while its business-fee help article says 2.29% + $0.10; this calculator uses the fee schedule.
