Questions

Is Depop or Mercari cheaper to sell on?

It depends on the price and the shipping. Depop's fee is mostly a fixed $0.45 plus 3.3%, and Mercari's is a flat 10%, so with no shipping or tax Mercari costs less below about $6.72 and Depop from about $6.72. With $8 shipping the buyer pays, Depop costs less at every item price from $1 to $2,000, because Mercari's 10% is charged on the shipping too. A boosted Depop sale is different: 3.3% + 12% is more than Mercari's 10%, so Mercari costs less at every price, with or without that shipping.

Do Depop and Mercari charge fees on shipping?

Both do. Depop's 3.3% + $0.45 processing fee is charged on the item price plus shipping and any taxes, and its boosting fee includes shipping unless you used a Depop shipping label. Mercari's 10% is charged on the item price plus the shipping the buyer pays. With free shipping, Mercari's fee is on the item price only, but the label comes out of your earnings.

Does the 12% Depop boost make Mercari cheaper?

Yes. A boosted Depop sale pays 12% of the item price (plus shipping without a Depop label) on top of processing, which puts it above Mercari's 10% at every price from $1 to $2,000. If you boost, a Depop shipping label keeps the boosting fee off the shipping. Tick the boost and label boxes in More options to see the difference on your sale.

Do Depop and Mercari charge fees on sales tax?

Depop does: its processing fee is charged on the item price, shipping and any applicable taxes. Mercari's 10% is charged on the item price plus buyer-paid shipping, so sales tax isn't part of it. Enter the buyer's tax rate in More options.

What does this comparison leave out?

On Depop: sellers outside the US (10% selling fee plus PayPal's fee) and the 8% boosting fee outside the UK and US. On Mercari: the 3.6% Buyer Protection fee the buyer pays, listings created before January 6, 2025 that haven't been updated, cancellation fees and shipping label adjustments. Mercari's Instant Pay ($3) is charged per cash-out, not per sale; tick it in More options only if you cash out each sale.
